Mongolia, Uzbekistan express their readiness to host 5th meeting on snow leopard preservation

Bishkek, Oct.30, 2019. /Kabar/. Mongolia and Uzbekistan expressed their readiness to host the 5th meeting of the snow leopard range countries in 2020 within the GSLEP framework. This became known after the 4th steering committee meeting of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP), held on Oct. 23-24 in New Delhi, India, the press service of Kyrgyzstan’s State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry said.

The Russian side also invited 12 countries of the snow leopard habitat and international experts to a scientific conference on snow leopard population assessment to be held in Russia in May 2020.

At the end of the meeting, all participating countries, as well as GSLEP key international programmes, welcomed and unanimously supported the Kyrgyz side's proposal to all 12 countries of the snow leopard range to finalize their management plans for key landscapes by 2022.

The press service of the State Agency for Environmental Protection reported that Kyrgyzstan currently carries out all the relevant activities of the steering committee meeting of the GSLEP in accordance with the established schedule.

The delegation of Kyrgyzstan, headed by Director of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic Mirslav Amankulov, took part in the 4th steering committee meeting of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP).

The meeting, attended by ministers representing 12 snow leopard range countries, senior government officials, technical experts and representatives of partner organizations, was chaired by India's Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar.
