Uzbekistan may reconsider int’l road haulage deal with Azerbaijan

Uzbekistan plans to reconsider the existing agreements and sign new ones for international road haulage with countries along the routes that ensure access of Uzbek goods to foreign markets and to the oceans of the world.
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, China, Spain, Iran, France, Estonia are among these countries, the norma.uz portal reported.
The purpose of adopting these regulatory and legal documents is to improve business environment for road haulers, especially those that ensure access for Uzbek goods to international markets.
Uzbek Agency for Road and River Transport in conjunction with interested ministries and departments develops a package of documents.
Moreover, it is planned to exempt foreign haulers crossing the state border of Uzbekistan with Tajikistan from additional fees for entry and transit, established in 2008.
The Uzbek government also plans to carry out a set of measures to implement the agreement on creating favorable conditions for international road haulage among the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
The rules for transporting cargo by road in Uzbekistan will be amended. This is related to the implementation of the agreement on international transportation of perishable foodstuffs.
Filling stations located along the international highways of Uzbekistan will be provided with fuel which meets Euro 4 emissions standards or higher.
The diplomatic relations between two countries were established on October 2, 1995.
Trade and economic cooperation is carried out in the mode of free trade and includes the range of goods of various sectors of the economy. Uzbekistan supplies vehicles, non-ferrous metals, pharmaceutical products, fertilizers, electrical and mechanical appliances, agricultural products to Azerbaijan, and renders services in the transport, tourism and other spheres. Azerbaijan's export to Uzbekistan mainly consists of mechanical appliances, confectionery products, various organic and chemical compounds, tanning and dyeing extracts.
As of December, 2016, 45 enterprises operate in Uzbekistan with the participation of Azerbaijani investors.
They specialize in such sectors of the economy as energy, light industry, engineering, metal processing, insurance, science and education, construction and trade.
Currently, more than 110 bilateral documents have been signed between the states.
The trade turnover between the countries amounted to $7.21 million in January-June, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
