(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 3 (Petra)-- Minister of Agriculture and Environment Ibrahim Shehadeh said the government is seeking to reach the comprehensive development, stressing that the citizen is the focus and basis of the development process.
The minister gave his remarks at the opening of a workshop on sustainable development goals and media held by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on Saturday, highlighting the enhance of media partnerships and its strategic role in achieving sustainable development goals that have taken on a global dimension in recent years.
The minister said the Government strives to achieve sustainable development goals in full accordance with national priorities and international commitments.
He explained that the Ministry of Environment was the point of contact and representative of the Government of the Rio Convention, which included the two frameworks; climate change, the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
The Agriculture Ministry, together with local partners from ministries and national institutions and with the support of the international development agencies, led by the GIZ, implemented several projects, programs and development initiatives in many fields that had a clear positive impact on food security, economic empowerment and environmental protection throughout the Kingdom, Shehadeh noted.
"The partnership between Jordan and Germany has been going on for many years and the Agency has established many partnerships with local partners in areas that serve the implementation of the sustainable development agenda 2030," said Oliver Schlein, Director of Sustainable Use of Ecosystem Services in Jordan.
He pointed out that Jordan is among the highest countries committed to implementing the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and that it plays a special role in achieving commitments of the sustainable development agenda.
The two-day workshop will address many topics that serve sustainable development, particularly GIZ's contribution to support Jordan to achieve sustainable development's goals, the Jordanian parliament's role and food security.
