Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Bala has applauded the work of the Organisation for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) Fiji programme here.

Mr Bala said the organisation’s programme aims to serve the people of Fiji.

He made the comment during the organisation’s 30th Anniversary at the Youth Training Centre in Nasau, Sigatoka on Friday.

“The foundations of OISCA Fiji replicate its global outreach programmes in aiming to serve and service humanity as one,” Mr Bala said.

He added OISCA Fiji had invested heavily in community based environmental programmes.

“Their programme takes an inclusive approach as is evident in the outreach programme involving children forest programmes. This keeps our children in touch with mother nature and mother earth in meaningful ways,” Mr Kumar said.

More than 1000 youths have graduated from the programme that promotes sustainable and organic farming.

Furthermore, Mr Bala said since the establishment of OISCA in Fiji, it had worked with many Government agencies and groups.

This included their close work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He said the anniversary celebrated three decades of close co-operation between Fiji and Japan through OISCA, and he acknowledged the director and members of OISCA for their work.

The OISCA Fiji had successfully implemented mangrove replanting in Korotogo and in Ra.

“The importance of our marine ecology and our dependence on the Blue Economy is built on having healthy mangroves among other factors.

“OISCA has extended their work in this area to coral restoration and regenerations on the famous coral coast area. And their initiative for the youth coast care programme involving the younger leaders of Fiji.”

Moreover, he added that the programme built on OISCA’s effort to have a sustainable blue environment to add to their work in the green environment through sustainable agriculture and forestry programmes.

OISCA was formed in 1961 in Japan and as part of its global outreach work commenced operations as OISCA Fiji in 1990. OISCA Fiji like its global counterparts is proactive in their approach to better humanity.
