VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A free event addressing the effects of climate change on the local community is coming Binghamton University.

BU is hosting a Climate Change Summit from April 26 to April 27 at the Innovative Technologies Campus. The summit will address the ongoing climate crisis and will work to educate the public on its effects.

Day one of the conference, which is aimed towards community organizations, will focus on interactive working groups aimed at developing comprehensive climate change adaptation plans.

Day two, which is open to the public, aims to engage community members in hands-on activities and educational sessions based on the progress made on day one.

“This event represents a unique opportunity for collaboration, education and empowerment as we collectively address the complex challenges of climate change and work towards building a more resilient future for our communities,” said Martin Larocca, sustainability manager at Binghamton University.

The Climate Change Summit highlights the work of Binghamton University, Broome County Planning, American Red Cross, United Way of Broome County and Southern Tier 8 as they call for climate action.
