FlyawayHomes Announces Solution for the Homeless Takes Giant Steps Forward.

The first story of FlyawayHomes installation.

Latest construction advances present impressive progress.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, June 14, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ------ FlyawayHomes is making significant progress in its goal to help end homelessness by building permanent supportive housing for the most vulnerable population of homeless in Los Angeles.

FlyawayHomes’ construction is again on target. The inaugural site, located at 820 West Colden Avenue, Los Angeles 90044, has accomplished a flurry of impressive activity with the first floor of the structure installed this week. FlyawayHomes has invited the media to visit the progress of the site with a prior appointment to make sure construction gates are unlocked and access is unimpeded.

Using modular housing units manufactured in a certified factory from repurposed shipping containers, making them a “product” (stamped and approved by the State of California) instead of a traditional “building”, FlyawayHomes is able to reduce the total construction time for a project to six months versus a 2-3-year project for traditional construction.

“While some initial delays were experienced, we attribute those primarily to the fact that our manufacturer was an innovative new company facing incredible growth over a short period. The team worked together to address these issues, and we are very proud of the project as a sustainable model for permanent supportive housing and to help to end homelessness,” stated Lawry Meister, President of FlyawayHomes.

FlyawayHomes has partnered with The People Concern, one of Los Angeles County’s largest social services agencies. This non-profit organization provides highly effective, fully integrated services to the most traumatized, vulnerable members of our community—homeless individuals, victims of domestic violence, challenged youth, and people dealing with severe physical or mental illness or substance abuse. With its expertise providing supportive services, it is able to keep 95% of its formerly homeless clients housed, compared to a national average of 50-60%.

John Maceri, the Executive Director for The People Concern states: “To a large extent, this initial FlyawayHomes installation is a pilot program. We’re grateful for the challenges that will ultimately help us create the best solution possible to solve one of our cities greatest tasks.”

Another key partner with the FlyawayHomes team is Del Amo Construction. Celebrating 50 years in 2018 as a successful builder in Southern California, the Del Amo Construction partners decided to give back to the community. When the opportunity presented itself for Del Amo to act as both general contractor and financial participant in the FlyawayHomes Colden Project, Del Amo Construction Partner, Charles Kobayashi, took the lead, applying Del Amo’s previous shipping container residential experience and providing comprehensive preconstruction, quality control, and construction oversight for this project.

FlyawayHomes is absolutely convinced that the organization has assembled a “dream team,” of partners who are poised to tackle the challenges that face our homeless neighbors.

About FlyawayHomes
FlyawayHomes was founded on the principle that to solve the homeless crisis in Los Angeles (and across the United States), permanent supportive housing must be built as an economically viable investment vehicle, providing a reasonable return to investors—without the need for government funds or private donations.
Founded in 2016, FlyawayHomes is an innovative developer of permanent supportive housing. The properties are master leased to a leading Los Angeles social service organization, The People Concern. FlyawayHomes has designed standard four-bedroom and two-bedroom units that work well as permanent supportive housing, with a minimum of 200 square feet per client. The team is focused on meeting the needs of our homeless community.
