Peace and security at ECOWAS and ECCAS summit in Togo

Lomé, ANGOLA, July 29 - With Angola presence , the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the West African counterpart (ECOWAS) are preparing to strengthen cooperation on peace, security and stability.,

The first joint summit (ECOWAS / ECCAS) in Lomé ,Togo, starting on Monday 30, the representatives of the member states of the two communities intend to strengthen cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism.

 

At the event, Angola will participate with a delegation led by the Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, representing the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

 

The summit will be comprised by Delegates from Cameroon, Burundi, Chad, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo, Rwanda, Benin, Burkina Faso and Cabo Verde , Côte D'ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo will attend the event.

 

At Lomé summit, ECCAS and ECOWAS intend to lay the groundwork for concerted action in the face of common challenges. Together, organizations also want to create a permanent platform for the exchange of information.

 

The idea of this partnership is to promote a deep and sincere dialogue that identifies the real causes of the problems and eliminates distrust.

 

The two blocs are intended to create a conducive environment in which, in the case of signatures of agreements, their violation by their signatories is increasingly unlikely.

 

In this context, ECCAS and ECOWAS propose to identify ways of improving the social conditions of the populations and to find lasting solutions to guarantee protection and assistance to those affected by political conflicts, humanitarian, social and environmental disasters.
