Oregon ranks second overall in new 'greenest states' report

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon ranked as one of the top-10 greenest states in a new WalletHub report.

The report came out just in time for Earth Day to examine which states care the most for the health of the environment and which residents are the most environmentally friendly.

Oregon ranked second overall and Washington ranked 17th.

Vermont came in first.

Here’s the list of the top 10:

1. Vermont
2. Oregon
3. Massachusetts
4. New York
5. South Dakota
6. Minnesota
7. Connecticut
8. New Hampshire
9. California
10. Rhode Island

And here are the states that finished last:

41. Arkansas
42. Indiana
43. Texas
44. Oklahoma
45. Wyoming
46. Alabama
47. North Dakota
48. Kentucky
49. Louisiana
50. West Virginia

The report found that “Blue States” tend to be greener than “Red States.”

It also revealed that Oregon has the highest share of energy consumption from renewable sources, 45.36 percent.

New York has the highest share of people who do not drive to work.
