Manchin Announces $35.6 Million To Support Safe, Affordable Housing For All West Virginians

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $35,649,438 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support providing safe, quality housing across West Virginia. This funding is through six different HUD grant programs and will help develop stronger, more resilient communities.

“Every West Virginian deserves a roof over their head and a warm, safe place to sleep at night,” said Senator Manchin. “I’m pleased HUD is investing more than $35.6 million to expand quality, accessible housing in our communities, and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this funding for years to come. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support a secure living environment for every West Virginian across the Mountain State."

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program awards funding to states, cities, and counties to provide decent housing and a suitable living environment, as well as expand economic opportunities.

The HOME Investment Partnerships Program provides grants to states and localities to fund a wide range of activities including building, buying, and/or rehabilitating affordable housing for rent or homeownership or providing direct rental assistance to low-income people.

The Housing Trust Fund (HTF) provides grants to states to produce and preserve affordable housing for extremely low- and very low-income households.

The Program to Help Individuals In Recovery From a Substance Use Disorder Become Stably Housed (Recovery Housing Program) provides funding to states to develop stable, transitional housing for individuals in recovery from a substance-use disorder.

The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program provides the first response to people with a housing crisis and engages people experiencing homelessness.
